BLOG 6: Tell us about an expert/person in your field that you admire

Imagen
Born in Cairo on May 12, 1910, Dorothy Crowffot Hodking, was a Britain chemist that was awarded the Chemistry Nobel Prize on 1964. She studied at the Oxford University, and in his last year she specialized on X Ray Crystallography, later she applied this thecnique on the search of the three dimensional structure of complex organic molecules. Thanks to her work we finally knew how it was the 3D structure of key organinc molecules, like the vitamin B12, pepsin and penicilin, the fits antibiotic, this anable us to make new derivatives more efficient of this drug. In a personal way i admire her a lot, since she was one of the first WOMEN on science to receive a Chemistry Nobel Prize with her amazing discery about the structure and properties of each compound. Also being a woman that inspired me with her endeavor and dedication to the science despite the prejudices about womans back then.

Blog 5: How can your major make the world a better place

Imagen
Chemistry has been present since the beginning of life on earth till today, it's a science that has a big impact on the development of complex societies, day to day life and on the search for solutions to actual problems, like the excessive energy consumption, pollution and the environmental deterioration. This helps us to satisfy our basic needs, like the alimentation, the development of medication, clothes, our living places, energy, transport and communications, which all of this help us to better the quality of human life. I feel very anxious about this pursuit of knowledge. I want to keep understanding more complex subjects about chemistry and how it has been developing around the world. I see myself contributing in a positive way, always with a professional compromise with the environment pointing to a better quality of life, protecting the resources that are scarce, and trying to make the least waste possible on this journey. I can’t wait for that day!

Blog 4: My favourite food: sushi

Imagen
A typical Japanese dish made with rice. It usually contains fish or seafood and vegetables can also be added. This is made with its base ingredient, rice, vegetables, fish, even fruit could be added (papaya or pineapple for example), then wrapped in nori seaweed and on top with avocado, salmon, tuna, sesame, etc., this by means of a bamboo mat which helps to give it the shape of a roll. I love it because you can combine various ingredients and flavours in one bite, plus you can add sauces to give it another twist.  I also like the derivatives of this food, sashimi, gohan, temaki, gyozas and all that. Sushi is often considered a dangerous food product because it contains raw seafood and fish, which are susceptible to harbouring bacteria and/or parasites. Contamination by bacteria such as "Salmonella" is another of the dangers of eating raw fish. However, tuna and salmon are great sources of iodine, vitamin D and protein.

BLOG 3: MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY

Imagen
I love it the ipad!! The ipad is a tablet and my favourite piece of technology because it is a very functional, portable tool and has several uses, including: a digital notebook, to read a pdf, to watch series and classes, to play games (it is compatible with console controllers), to edit photos or videos. I also think it's great to take on any trip.  It is very useful in my day to day life, especially in the classroom to take notes, write on a ppt, among others. If you are thinking of buying a tablet I highly recommend it, especially for those who are students or like to create digital content, either drawing, posters, post, etc.. As for the price it is a bit high compared to other tablets, but from my point of view it is a good investment.  Its excellent functions help us to make life easier.

BLOG 2: Why did you choose this career/study programme?

Imagen
When I was little I did have an unlimited amount of options about what I "wanted to be when I grew up", honestly I always opted for the science side and I also saw myself in something related to the health area.  Although I think when we were kids we all had a thousand ideas in our heads of what we wanted to be in the future. When I applied to the university my other options were chemistry and pharmacy, food engineering (faculty careers) and I was also very interested in studying obstetrics, to this day I would like to study it, maybe in a very distant future hahahahahs. My first choice was pharmacy, although I was on the waiting list, I decided to enter chemistry anyway, because at the end of the day it was always what I loved, chemistry, I think it is the base science of all the others, since it is responsible for studying matter at both atomic and interatomic levels, the properties and characteristics of what surrounds us, even what we can not see. In relation to my univ...
